Now confirmed as fact by numerous sources within the government, Sarah Palin hastily resigned from her position as Governor of Alaska on July 3d due to an upcoming federal indictment for embezzlement! More to follow...

Just joined Squidoo
I never really knew what Squidoo was until yesterday. Now I have three lenses (Squidoo sites). I like the way they seem to be relaxed about what you do with your lenses, and I like the fact that the whole module based way of building sites actually works. And it does work well. They say a lens might even make $2 to $20 a day and they encourage you to make as many as you can. I still have a good deal of work to do on all three lenses; Rasputina, Lagoon in Utah, and Diamond Blades, but they're off to a good start. You should start some lenses too, and while you're there rate my lenses or join my fans.

My latest project
My newest project is DiamondBlades.org. I just barely resigned from a recent job writing content for some concrete tool marketing sites, and I've learned a great deal about diamond saw blades, chainsaw chains, core drills, and similar stuff. I joined the affiliate program of my former employer (to be clear, this employer isn't the SEO I discussed earlier in my blog) and hope to drive some traffic to them and earn a few bucks on the way (Note to former employer: Why no iShop affiliate programs?). Now I can finally have a real test of my SEO skills "Diamond Blades" seems to be a highly competitive keyphrase, can I make it to the top?

Buy a taser from my friend, then go taze yourself.
My brother bought a cool green laser pointer online. What's the first thing he did? He shined it in his own eye. It's just like a few years back when he bought a taser. He wanted to see it in action, and it's totally not cool to just taze random people, bro. So he tazed himself. He says it hurt.
I guess all of that is beyond the point of my post. I'm very interested in SEO, but I'm actually not that interested in selling stuff. I've never really tried out my own SEO on an online store, but now I have a chance to see if I could sell stuff if I tried. My friend is selling tasers (among other things). Specifically the M-18 Taser. Don't mind the fact that it is from the "Utah Spy Store", it's an online store. You need not live in Utah to buy one. So, I would invite everybody to go buy a taser from my friend. Then feel free to go taze yourself!

If DMOZ were actually interested in a better internet, they'd shut down. If you're Interested in a better internet, stop using DMOZ Data!
Google, are you listening?
I am not bitter about DMOZ because they won't include me. Actually, every site I have ever submitted to DMOZ has eventually been accepted, Though it might take years. That's exactly half of what makes DMOZ a problem.
First off, I know that a listing in DMOZ no longer makes you automatically rank higher in Google, but it certianly does indirectly. You will eventually rank higher because of all the links that will be generated by the many, many (almost always useless) sites that use DMOZ data.
Now if you're me (and I know you aren't) then you have several high quality unique content sites that are completely within DMOZ's guidelines (And no, this site isn't one of them). You can submit these sites, and then an average of 400 days later you will finally show up in DMOZ. A few months after this your rank will begin to improve from other people using the data.
Instead, if you're the SEO I used to work for then you have hundreds of sites that are word for word copies of existing sites (the insider term for the creation of these sites was "stealing"). Your sites are of no value to anybody, and only serve to generate adsense clicks and marked up drop shipping. Since you have a lot of money (being the quasi-scammer that you are) you just pay your personal DMOZ editor to add your site and you're listed in 3 days. The SEO benefits you recieve from this will always outrank the SEO benefits I received from my 400 day submission due to the fact that sites using DMOZ data do not update with the same frequency as DMOZ itself. There will be numerous sites that you (SEO content thief) receive a link on that will never link to me (little guy with actual content), because there isn't anybody around anymore to update the DMOZ data used on that site.
Also, NOBODY searches DMOZ when browsing the web. Just try it and you'll see why. DMOZ's data is worthless garbage.
What does this come down to? DMOZ in it's current corrupt state ONLY serves to help the scammers, get-rich quickers and content thieves. If DMOZ was actually interested in making the internet better they'd shut down and delete the data. I'd be more than happy to have all my listed sites disappear (from DMOZ) for the sake of a better internet.
I'm doubting this will ever happen. So instead I propose that EVERYBODY show their disgust with DMOZ by not using any DMOZ data and deleting any DMOZ data they might be already using. There are alternatives out there now. Google, I like you. You are actually smart and helpful. Why don't you finally just drop the DMOZ data and set a good example for everybody else? We can never get rid of DMOZ, nor can we force it to produce useful data, but we could actually take it's power away if we all got together and admitted how useless their data truly is.

WTF do I knol?
Google's Knol seems like something to look at. Are these knols going to rank #1 in Google for a lot of terms? The unanswered question is, will the "reference" links use a nofollow tag like Wikipedia? Without an answer to that question, it's hard to know what to make of the whole thing.

Selling your wares
The company I worked for drop-shipped. They had some nice (and some not so nice) stuff, and marked it up considerably. Lots of people apparently buy it too, all just because of SEO. That's crazy.
We've had an eBay business for years, but we're interested in the new Google product search and Google checkout. So we registered a new domain today where we plan to build our new Collectible items store.
Hopefully with Google Base and (really) unique items SEO won't be the most important thing. But I'm still going to experiment.

Does anybody know how the internets work?
So, I mentioned the job I had in a previous post. I don't want to say that word (s-word) again for today. I think the strange thing is coming to realize that nobody at the company actually even really knew how the internet works. Apparently not one single employee even knew HTML. I was bewildered. But they DID rank. So....
Do people know how the internet works? I mean, I do and I just figured it out myself, so I assume there are thousands of people everywhere who went to school for this who must know more than me, right? I know my HTML CSS PHP and MySQL and I more or less know how to make the internets, is this actually a valuable or rare skill?
Seeing that company thrive with no comprehension of the technology made me feel like it might be a rare skill, but may not really be necessary... Anybody know?
Now to be irritatingly un-relating (yet so right on topic). Here be my links from delicious. Deal with it!

delicious
The delicious bookmarking site is strange. I guess it seems like a more interesting social networking idea than myspace, but it still seems to be pretty useless as a mass effort. Links! neat!
Seems like a good thing to exploit for SEO purposes. Hey, neat. I just got a great idea for this blog.
I worked for a "major SEO" (according to them, but they DO rank). And, well.... let's just say it's not what I expected, but now see that I should have known all along. Just look at the damn internet.
More another day

Doll Sites
Here's a couple doll sites I've seen. Not too much stuff like this out there. Dolls and tech don't always mix well.
